The toxicity of dating in 2023 is already getting BENCHED!

You may be familiar with the term ghosting, but just like a new fashion trend, the toxicity of dating has adapted a new species… benching. Practically keeping someone at arm’s length, maintaining the occasional cyber flirt and hinting at that coffee you will probably never get.

But have we as a society fostered the ability for people to lack basic human respect for one another? As humans we crave love, depending on the form of admiration we desire these feelings, hormones and chemicals in our brains scream for love. So why do we tolerate drops of attention from a person who may not even respect our basic needs? Keeping someone on a bench in your mind is allowing your self to potentially be benched by someone else. You lose the natural triggers to determine the dangers or as we commonly know it as ‘red flags’.

We see an endless wooden bench with no end.

Forever benching, lowering our natural accountability and veneration.

Its highly likely, we have all been in situations of being or doing the ghosting.

Instead of showing another breathing, living person the kindness and closure, we simply stop replying, stop communicating all together. Giving the behaviour of benching a title, catalyzes the use. But now, we can use this new term as an excuse to avoid ghosting. Filling the shoes of another toxic form of disrespectful habits.

This shift in society has been cared and fed through social networks and dating sites.

The ability to message someone in seconds on the other side of the world or two blocks away is so much powerful than we comprehend. So, with this weapon of immediate contact, comes expectations and disappointment.

Showing empathy toward others isn’t hard. In fact, it’s easier than being ignorant and hurtful. Piss that bench concept off, don’t have a bench, don’t be on someone’s bench. Have one front row seat. VIP ticket. If the ticket holder isn’t for you, be honest, up-front and KIND.

We don’t want ghosts, benches, or drip feeds.

We are far too good to sit on a silly bench anyway, we deserve a throne.
